Where do I start? What should I buy? When you’re new to purchasing CBD products, it’s tough to know where to start. Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Many of our first time CBD buyers, that are now very satisfied repeat customers, were once in your shoes.
When purchasing any CBD products, complete product transparency is extremely important. You should always get CBD products that have been 3rd party lab tested. At The Mass Apothecary, all of our products have been 3rd party lab tested, which ensures that you get safe products that have no heavy metals, the proper amount of CBD, and the legal amount of THC (for Full Spectrum CBD only). Certificate of analysis reports are on our “Lab Results” page, as well as each individual product page.
We offer free CBD education consultations and personalized product recommendations. Please don’t hesitate to come in person if local or call us for your free consultation 774-301-6135. This page has also been set up to help you better understand the different types of CBD and products so you can find what is best for you personally.
Full-spectrum CBD means that an oil or product contains all the cannabinoids that are found in the cannabis plant in nature, rather than just CBD (Cannabidiol). Full-spectrum products are associated with the “entourage effect” – this refers to the increased effectiveness of these products due to the different cannabinoids working synergistically together.
So, what else are you getting with a full-spectrum product besides CBD? The short answer is you are getting more than 100 different cannabinoids found in the hemp plant, terpenes, flavonoids, vitamins, & minerals. CBD and THC are the most abundant cannabinoids in cannabis, but there are several minor cannabinoids that can play an important role in the effectiveness of a CBD product. In most cases, a full spectrum product will work the most effectively.
Broad-spectrum CBD is CBD that has been extracted from the cannabis plant with all of the other compounds from the plant except for THC. That means it contains terpenes, essential oils, and other cannabinoids from the plant. This should not result in psychoactive effects, but there is still more research to be done. And because there is no THC in broad-spectrum CBD, it shouldn’t show up on a drug test.
CBD isolate is the purest form of CBD, and it’s exactly what it sounds like CBD that is isolated from other parts of the cannabis plant. It’s extracted from the plant with no other compounds or cannabinoids. That means there are no terpenes or essential oils in it. It also contains no THC, so it does not cause psychoactive side effects, and it should not show up on a drug test. It’s simply pure CBD. Of course, it’s important to remember that it also means that you do not get the full benefits of the essential oils that are part of broad-spectrum or full-spectrum CBD.
CBD oil tinctures are the most commonly bought CBD products. Oil tinctures are great for everyday use taken 1-3 times daily. These are easy to adjust your serving size and are available in a wide range of potency's. When taking CBD oil tinctures sublingually, effects will last 6-8 hours, but it takes 30-60 minutes to start feeling the effects.
CBD topicals are any type of product that you put directly on your skin such as creams, salves, lotions, or patches. CBD topicals begin to work within minutes but usually within seconds, which is why topicals are right up there with oil tinctures as far as popularity goes. Aside from patches, which vary on how long they last, topicals last 3-4 hours before the effects wear off. Use topicals as needed throughout the day.
CBD capsules are very similar to oil tinctures and are a great alternative to oil tinctures if you don't like taking oil sublingually or you just don't like the taste of the oils. Capsules are also a discreet, easy way to consume CBD if you need to take while at work or out in public. Capsules usually take 30-90 minutes to feel the effects and last 6-8 hours.
CBD edibles such as gummies or chocolate bars are becoming more and more popular as it's an easy and tasty way to get CBD into our systems. The most popular of all edibles are gummies. Edibles are a great way to get your CBD if you prefer not to take oil or capsules. This is another form of CBD that is discreet and easy to take publicly or while at work. Edibles typically take 30-60 minutes for you to feel the effects and last 4-12 hours.
